Microsoft Money 98 is a personal-finance tool for tracking your finances. With this software, saving money and planning for the future is easier than ever before.
The first time you launch the software, the tour window appears. Click on the "Tour for New Users" button to get an idea of what you can do with Money 98.
Note: The CD needed to watch the Tour is the Master CD n░2.
2/5- OPEN YOUR FIRST ACCOUNT RIGHT AWAY!
On the first start, Money guides you to create your accounts. Just click on:
The New account wizard will help you make your way through the different steps necessary to set up your accounts. You just need to give little information in a couple of dialog boxes.
Each dialog box contains a paragraph to help you fill the different fields. Fill in each field and Click Next> to access the next dialog box. If you want to review or change any information already entered, click <Back to access the previous dialog box.
Example: Creating your current account in Money
Follow the instructions of the New account wizard dialog boxes:
• Enter the name of the bank (or financial institution) that holds your account.
• Select Current in the list of the available types of account to define your new account as a current account.
• Give a name to your account. This name will help you find your account easily when navigating through Money.
• Select Spending Money, as it is the main purpose of your current account.
• Finally, enter the balance of your account and the currency.
This is perhaps the most important step in the creation of an account as Money uses this figure to calculate your current balance when you enter transactions on your account.
For example, you can enter the ending balance of your latest bank statement.
• Click on Finish. Money automatically creates an icon for your account in the Account Manager.
The Account Manager is the main window that provides easy access to all your accounts. To access an account, just double click on its icon. To access the Account Manager from anywhere in Money, click on Accounts on the navigation bar and select Account Manager.
TIP
To create other accounts, click on New
Account in the Account Manager.
3/5- TRANSACTION ENTRY: EASIER THAN AT THE BANK!
In the Account Manager, double click on the account on which you want to enter a transaction
Money opens the account window. This window is divided into two areas:
A- The register
The register contains all transactions entered on the account.
B- The transaction form
This cheque looking like form allows you to enter any kind of transaction in a blink of an eye.
To enter a transaction on your account:
• Select the type of transaction: cheque, deposit, transfer, withdrawal or cash machine.
• Fill in the different fields of the form. Press the <Tab> key to go from one field to another.
• Click on the Enter button on the form and... that’s it !
Money automatically reports the transaction in the register and updates the balance.
TIP
A small calculator pops up if you click on the down arrow in the field Amount. Use it to enter sums or other calculated amounts. You can control it either with the mouse or the keyboard numeric pad.
Now you are ready to follow your bank account up to the nearest penny !
Money 98 automatically saves all data entered to a file. No specific command is required. However, Money 98 suggests you to make a backup copy of your work before you close the software.
It is important to have a safe copy (e.g. on a floppy disk) of your Money file in the event of a loss or damage of the main data. So be sure to backup your Money file every time you update or modify it.
